Why I Became A Realtor

So here’s the thing – people ask me all the time: “Ashley, why real estate?”

And honestly? It’s not just about houses, contracts, or open houses (although, yes, I live for those too). For me, it’s about people. About stories. About creating that “OMG we did it!” moment when you walk through the door of your new home for the very first time.

But let’s rewind for a sec.

Where It All Started

Three years ago, I started at Century 21 United Realty Inc. Brokerage in Peterborough … not as a realtor, but at the front desk. Yup – your girl was the one answering phones, putting up listings, and teaching other agents how to use their tech.

It might not sound glamourous, but it was everything. I got to see behind the curtain, network with others and formulate my own ideas. I watched what worked, what didn’t, and how much of a difference it makes when you actually care about people instead of just transactions.

From there, I worked as an assistant with the Sold by Shearers Team – and that’s where I really fell in love with the process. The buyers, the sellers, their stories, the joy of a new chapter, the emotion behind the house, the connections formed, and lasting relationships along the way. It lit me up. And that’s when I knew – I wasn’t just meant to be around real estate. I was meant to live it.

Why Me? Why This?

Here’s the truth: I wear a lot of hats.

  • Photographer (Inspired by Griffin Photography was my first baby).
  • Freelance Model (yes, the heels, the lights, the whole thing).
  • Mom to the most amazing 5-year-old boy (aka my why for everything).

Each piece of my story brought me here. Photography taught me to see detail and emotion. Modelling taught me confidence and how to own a room. Motherhood taught me grit, patience, and how much “home” really matters.

Real estate? It’s the space where all of those collide.

The Honest Truth

I became a realtor because I know how scary, exciting, overwhelming, and beautiful buying or selling a home can be. And I wanted to be the one who walks alongside people through that rollercoaster – not just handing over paperwork, but actually being there for the whole journey.

This isn’t just my career – it’s personal. It’s legacy. It’s me showing my son that you can build something unapologetically your own and do it with heart.

What This Means For You

If you work with me, you’re not just getting a realtor. You’re getting someone who’s been in every seat at the table: front desk, assistant, and now agent. Someone who knows the ins-and-outs but also remembers it’s about you. Your story. Your life.

So yeah – that’s why I became a realtor. Because home is everything.
